Marizete Browne is an accomplished performer, choreographer and instructor of Brazilian dance. She has been teaching samba no pé, samba de gafieira and forro regularly in NYC since 2003.

 

 

Passionate about the culture and music of Brazil, she performs and offers instruction on a variety of Brazilian-style dances with the charm and warmth of a native Brazilian. Her style captures and expresses the beauty and essence of the art. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Marizete fell in love with Samba as a young girl and started dancing in local parades that passed through her town.

Her talent and passion were quickly recognized by her first dance instructor at the Academia de Dança de Salão Egídio located in the heart of Rio, where she perfected her technique as a dance instructor.

She travels to Brazil for training at least once a year, ensuring that her techniques are current and her students are receiving instruction in the latest mode of Brazilian dance.

Among her recent accomplishments in the Tri-state area, Marizete performed and provided dance instruction at Midsummer Night Swing- Brazilian Night at Lincoln Center, NYC; Brooklyn Public Library’s “Borrow a Beat” series, Brooklyn, NY; Tribeca Brazilian Film Festival, NYC; Battery Park City Parks Conservancy Evening of Brazilian Family Dance, NYC and the Riverfront Swing Series for Quarteto Olinda at the Westport Arts Center, Westport, Connecticut.

Marizete was selected to choreograph and perform at various educational institutions including New York University and Fordham University, NYC, and at Union College, Schenectady, NY, among others. Marizete was the highlight of the evening at a Brazilian-themed Holiday Gala for the Financial Women’s Association of New York, where she performed Samba de Carnaval do Rio. A former elementary school teacher, Marizete possesses a natural talent for creativity as an instructor, and recognizes the importance of connecting with her students on an emotional level. She enjoys guiding others in the learning process. Marizete developed a unique method of instruction given her knack for quickly grasping and retaining various dances and multiple sequences. In an atmosphere of fun and excitement, she imparts her energy and passion for the art form in a manner and that inspires her students to maximize their potential. As the organizer of the New York Samba & Forro Meetup and the New York City Brazilians and Brazilian Culture Meetup groups, she provides her students and followers with information on happenings in and around the NYC Brazilian community. Marizete is the epitome of the spirit of Brazil. Those who know her attest to her love of music, dance, people and life.
